I believe it is in most users' best interest to disable any kind of ping caused by Contains Displayname and Contains Username by default.

It is primarily used by spam (messages containing the usernames of everyone in the room) or by accident.
The only exception to this is, as far as I can see, in rooms with an irc bridge, but that is an exception that (relatively) few will encounter.

If that is too drastic of a change, I recommend at least setting it to Notify Silent by default, but personally I do not think that does enough because it is not affected by the Ping room permission and it is not easily detected by moderation tools.

Client can/should not automatically disable those, the default value is/should set by server on account creation.

Ah, I see; that’s unfortunate.
I recall disabling both of those in the past but I guess they were somehow turned back on.
