Abstract
Design and make their own map is a dream of many people. Supporting by SOA techniques and geographic information services, people can achieve their dream online. In the paper a user defined mapping system is put forward and key techniques are analyzed. The system includes GI provider, requester and geographic information center. GI provider can encapsulate geographic data into OGC data services or encapsulate GIS software components into processing services and register these services to geographic information center. GIC in charge of geographic service description, classification, service metadata storage, service assessment, maintenance and inquires. GI requester can search services via GIC, get dada service from others, processing data with processing services online and select proper symbols to display it.
