Abstract
In this paper we describe how we integrated ontological knowledge into a planning domain definition system. We claim that this approach has two main benefits: (i) from the user point of view, existing ontologies previously developed inside the company can be reused (ii) from the planning system point of view ontology semantics can be used to infer domain properties that are not explicitly represented by the user. The specific contribution described in this paper is the use of OWL semantics beyond subsumption to infer knowledge in the planning domain definition. We demonstrate how this is done and describe a system that can utilize the technique to solve practical problems.
