Midi-Keyboard won't turn on / M1 Macbook Pro and Sequioa
Hi,
I'm a musician and own a m1 macbook pro as well as a VPC 1, a weighted MIDI-Keyboard. Especially since the Sequioa Update I cannot really use it anymore, since it won't turn on anymore. The VPC 1 is connected to the macbook via usb-B to C cable into an external hub. The hub used to be the cal digit-soho (unpowered), however just recently I bought the powered Cal Digit TS3 Plus to replace it since I thought this would be a solution for my problem. Additionally an external monitor, two Kali speakers and an audio interface (audient) are connected via usb-c to the hub. The vpc itself should, according to the manual, be powered by the computer it is connected to (through usb). In the manual however it's also stated that when the power knob blinks the power supply should be connected as well.
Since I bought the macbook and used the vpc with it, it often blinked, (despite one period after an internal update I think it was vent) so I think with Big Sur or Monterey (not really sure anymore) I needed to wait a bit and it worked, later I used the power supply it comes with and it usually worked as well. I think starting with ventura and sonoma I often encountered kind of strange behaviour, especially after inbetween one OS-Version Updates. For some time then I had to turn on the vpc first and only then I could turn on my audio interface or my speakers. Sometimes it was reversed. Oftentimes when it was turned on it couldn't be turned off anymore, so I had to pull the plug.
I'm not totally sure when it began excatly, on one of the last ventura updates or since sequioa, that the piano couldn't be turned on at all anymore. I contacted the apple and kawai support, and according to them I should either downgrade (kawai) or buy an usb-a to c adapter (apple). So I tried the downgrading first, at first to ventura, and it worked! Well, strangely only for some time. In the first worksessions it worked even without the power supply. In the next sessions it started to blink again, so I powered it. Then it couldn't be turned off anymore and finally at some point it couldn't be turned on anymore as well. I tried then the usb-a to c-connector and nothing changed. I tried also different cables (though not all thunderbold, I will try to replace everything at some point) I was quite sure then, also after extensive online research, that it is/was a power or power limit problem so I bought the new hub, thought my problems would be solved, even updated to sequioa and encountered the same cycle I described earlier.
Right now I'm kind of in the feeling that I haven't much options left. One of the last ones would be maybe to go through MIDI directly which the vcp has the option to and skip the USB-Connection, but I'm really kind of pessimistic that this would work. Of course I thought of the possibillity that the vpc could be malfunctioning, but the thing is I remember it quite clearly that the problems almost always started after I updated to a newer version. Immediately after sequioa (and the aformentioned cycle) it started the first time to really not be possible to turn it on anymore at all.
From the software side I tried the safe mode, also with a different user account, the ram or config reset on startup, I installed/reinstalled several audio related programs and I tried the config where the mac is asking everytime if usb can be connected. Recently I tried to shut off the mac completely and wait longer than a minute, it funnily worked after this but only for one time ...
Really any help would be appreciated, I love my mac and love my keyboard and really want that it at least works like it used to. It really drives me crazy
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post
